Cordova Hills reduces emissions by 35%
LID replaces the traditional development approach of conveying runoff through miles of pipes and acres of expansive detention ponds with an approach that mimics nature, using natural vegetation and small-scale treatment systems to retard, treat, evaporate, and infiltrate storm water runoff close to where it originates.
Sustainable Water Plan
Reducing the amount of runoff at the source in the first place not only reduces the need forpoint-of-discharge facilities (detention and water quality basins), but reduces impacts on receiving waters carrying storm water. Additionally, LID also reduces the effective imperviousness of development, increasing storm water infiltration and thus helping to recharge groundwater resources. Cordova Hills has allowed the opportunity at numerous locations throughout the project for LID measures to be implemented.
